I think you can do better for $3K. Surprisingly, it’s not an automatic...

You certainly can, however - I’ve noticed that there is a growing sensitivity in the Miata community to the fact that their beloved cheap cars are going up in value. NA’s are becoming classics and as such are starting to rise. There a very pretty one on CL the other day and people in one of the Miata FB groups were laughing at the $8k asking price. I hate to tell you folks, a clean 60k mile NA is a $5-10k car now.

I haven’t checked lately, but I probably can’t fit comfortably in an NA anyway. If NAs are climbing in value, where’s the sweet spot in the market right now?

This. I wonder where a clean lower mileage NA will top out at in 5 or so years?

4k$ for one that’s been cared for despite having high miles. You can get a clean NB with five-figure mileage for under 8k$ if you look right. See also this rare Laser Blue ‘02. https://greenville.craigslist.org/cto/d/mazda-miata-laser-blue-miles/6206780880.html

Are you more torso than legs, vice-versa, or equal? You could do a foam-ectomy on the stock seats to help you sit lower.

I’m 6'5" and when I went to test drive an NA I took the keys back in before I started the car.

I’m only 5'11", but a tad wider than I’d like to be...

I did find the NC to be a good fit, but even the cheapest one is more money than I’d like to spend on a plaything right now.

A $4-5k car is a great balance of driver/nice with clean panels. I bought a $950 one because I knew that I was going to change basically everything (including maybe the engine). It was anything but clean: body dents, 26 year/199k mile suspension, original calipers, stripped alignment, non-working radio, oil leaks, bad clutch.

I could have had a car with most of that sorted for $5k. I spent about $4k setting things right (but with better flyin miata / moss miata parts).

I’m 5'6" and I find that the NA is set up for someone taller than me. The pedal box is fairly far away and the steering wheel is weirdly close. That said, you run out of room backing up the seat very quickly. You ought to try it to find out. The ergonomics are quite weird.

Probably 8-10k. I look at them as the modern-classic equivalent of the MG-B.
